Daily sauce from a selection of rare eighteenth-century erotic prints. The labels will allow you to search by activity and by setting, so you can look for esoteric symbolism or simply filter for frottage.
~ I believe these images to be in the public domain as they are over 100 years old, and therefore I understand I have the right to share them in this way. However, if you believe this not to be the case, or if you own the copyright, please contact me at tintomara34@gmail.com to discuss their deletion.
~ I post here under a pseudonym not so much for anonymity, but so as to keep the blog clearly separate from my other online and professional activities.
~ I did some initial research to find out more about the images and gather ideas for the blog title and labels, but ultimately I decided to offer as little analysis as possible. This was partly to avoid misquoting sources or botching references, and partly because the tone I am aiming for is fun rather than academic - every one of these little pamphlets could probably generate a PhD dissertation which I do not have the knowledge or resources to write. However, I do hope that the blog raises awareness of this extraordinary genre of archaic visual culture, gives readers access to an aspect of social history which they may not have realised existed and encourages further research into this hair-raising and fascinating subject.
